Custom AgCl Hydrogel For The Resting ECG Tab Electrode

February 27 , 2025

Resting ECG Tab electrodes are typically used for measuring electrical activity of the heart in a clinical setting. These electrodes are designed to be placed on the skin's surface to detect and record the heart's electrical signals.  Below is a breakdown of the typical materials and layers used in these electrodes:

  1. Adhesive Layer:
The adhesive layer helps the electrode stick to the skin securely. It is typically made from a medical-grade adhesive such as hydrocolloid or acrylic, which ensures it adheres well but also remains gentle on the skin to minimize irritation during longer procedures.

  2. Conductive Gel :
This layer is applied directly to the electrode's contact area with the skin. It provides the necessary conductivity for the electrical signals to be transmitted from the skin to the electrode, ensuring a clear and accurate ECG reading. The gel or paste may contain saline, which helps to reduce skin impedance.

  3. Electrode Material (Metal or Carbon):
The electrode itself is often made from a conductive material such as silver/silver chloride (Ag/AgCl), which is commonly used in ECG electrodes due to its stable electrical properties. In some electrodes, the conductive element may also be made from carbon or other conductive materials that are resistant to corrosion and provide a stable signal.

  4. Backing :
This is the outer layer of the electrode, which provides structural support and helps to protect the internal layers. The backing film is usually made of a flexible, non-woven material, such as polyester or a similar substance, which allows the electrode to conform comfortably to the skin.

  5. Protective Liner:

  6. Before use, the adhesive side is typically covered with a protective liner that keeps the adhesive from sticking prematurely. This liner is usually made of plastic or paper and is removed before the electrode is applied to the skin.

General Resting ECG tab electrode composeds of a variety of materials ( PET+ Carbon+ AgCl+hydrogel +Protective film) , the purpose is to ensure that the electrode has good adhesion to the skin, good conductance, and is able to collect electrocardiogram signals .
