Product  Feature

  • Horizontal Design:

    • The electrode has an elongated, rectangular shape, which is designed to be placed flat against the patient’s body. This shape allows for a wide distribution of electrical current, minimizing the risk of localized burns.
  • Large Contact Area:

    • The horizontal shape ensures a large surface area contact with the patient’s skin, which helps disperse the electrical current more evenly across the body, enhancing patient safety during electrosurgical procedures.
  • Single-Use, Adhesive Pad:

    • These electrodes are typically single-use and come with a self-adhesive backing to ensure secure and firm attachment to the skin. Once the procedure is complete, the pad is easily removed and discarded.
  • Flexible Material:

    • Made from flexible materials, the pad can conform to the patient’s body contours, ensuring full contact with the skin. This flexibility reduces the chance of air pockets, which can increase resistance and lead to burns.
  • Bipartite (Split) or Monopartite Design:

    • Horizontal neutral electrode pads may come in bipartite (split) designs, where the pad is divided into two sections to monitor the electrical impedance and ensure proper contact. Monopartite (single-section) designs are also available, depending on the electrosurgical system requirements.
  • Patient Safety:

    • The large, even contact of the pad ensures that the electrical current is dispersed safely, preventing concentrated electrical flow that could cause burns. The pad is typically placed on areas of the body with good perfusion, such as the thigh or back.
  • Placement and Use:

    • It is important that the electrode pad is applied to clean, dry, and intact skin to ensure optimal conductivity. The pad should be positioned on a large, well-perfused muscle mass, avoiding bony prominences, metal implants, and areas of compromised skin integrity.

Applications

  • Monopolar Electrosurgery: These electrodes are specifically used in monopolar electrosurgical procedures, where the current travels from the active electrode through the patient’s body and returns to the generator via the neutral electrode pad.

  • General Surgery, Orthopedics, Gynecology: The horizontal neutral electrode pad is widely used in various types of surgeries requiring electrosurgical equipment, where patient safety is paramount.

Benefits

  • Enhanced Safety: The wide horizontal shape ensures a more uniform distribution of electrical current, reducing the risk of burns or hot spots.

  • Secure Attachment: The adhesive backing ensures that the pad remains securely in place throughout the procedure, reducing the risk of incomplete contact.

  • Comfort and Flexibility: The flexible design conforms to the patient’s body, ensuring full and comfortable skin contact.
